What is Shopmobility?
Launched in 2003, Meadows Shopmobility is a registered charity providing motorised scooters and manual wheelchairs to anyone of any age with a permanent or temporary mobility problem.

How can I join?
The scheme is available to anyone with a mobility problem as the result of a permanent or temporary disability caused by age, accident, illness, pregnancy etc.  You do not have to be registered disabled to become a member.

You are welcome to visit the Meadows Shopmobility Centre where our staff will explain our services show you the range of mobility aids available for loan.  You will need to complete registration form and provide proof of identity and address (Driving Licence, Passport, Utility Bill).  Training can be given if required.

How much does it cost?
There is an annual membership fee of £7.50.  Thereafter the mobility aids can be loaned at no further cost.

Where are we?
You will find us located on the ground floor of the Meadows multi-storey car park (opposite the Odeon Cinema), adjacent to the disabled parking bays.

Is there an age limit?
There is no age limit, but powered scooters can only be loaned to persons under 16 if they are accompanied by a responsible adult.

When are we open?
The Meadows Shopmobility Centre is open Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 5.00pm.  We are not open Sundays or Bank Holidays.  All mobility aids must be returned by 4.45pm

Do I have to live in Chelmsford?
You do not have to live in Chelmsford to borrow a mobility aid.  Friends and family who are visiting Chelmsford are also welcome to use the scheme.  Call us for details.

Can I pre-book a Mobility Aid?
It is not always necessary to book in advance, but it is advisable to ensure that your favourite mobility aid is reserved for you.  Outside of opening hours you can leave a message on our answering machine or email us on meadowsshopmobility@btconnect.com.  Please ensure that you leave your name and membership number, the date and time you require the mobility aid.  Our telephone number is 01245 357097
